Standing room only

Work continues on the site of our new stadium build in Sawston following the Christmas break with structures emerging in all directions, news that is bound to please City fans disappointed at the news before Christmas that the project had encountered some delays.

Stadium Solutions have built the frames for the three standing terraces which will be situated behind each goal and along the far side of the pitch opposite the main stand and will return to fit the tread once tarmac work is completed around them. One of these terraces will support visitors to the ground with impaired mobility, providing an excellent view of the game along with step free access from their vehicle all the way to the terrace. With the main stand also housing a lift, the new ground will be accessible to all.

The contract to build the new 3G artificial turf pitch was won by FieldTurf and is being built by their construction partner S&C Slatter through the Football Foundation framework. Over the past 30-years, S&C Slatter has grown to become the UK's Premier sports construction specialists, boasting dedicated in-house expertise spanning design and planning, construction, finance, civil engineering and maintenance. They have worked on artificial pitches for teams across the UK including Everton and Sutton United. Work is scheduled to start on the sub-base later of the 3G in the next week.

Work is underway to install the drainage system to support the main stand facilities, once installed the support bases for the stadium structure will be laid and the remainder of the concrete foundations will be poured. Late February will see Stadium Solutions on site once again as the steel frame for the main stand starts to be erected. Earlier this month, members of the project team travelled up to South Shields to see the stadium that is near completion at their ground – this is also being built by Stadium Solutions.

Behind the scenes, our commercial team is busy meeting with potential future partners to discuss areas such as stadium, stand and room naming rights. We’ve had a fantastic response so far so if you feel that this fantastic new facility, which will be in use during the daytime and evening, could benefit your business then please get in touch for more information about our sponsorship and corporate hospitality packages. Advertising space will be available on the approach to the stadium, around the site perimeter and of course pitch-side around our main pitch. City Vice-Chairman, Ken Anderson, said; “To see buildings appearing on the site of our new home in Sawston is definitely a sight for sore eyes. We know people were disappointed at the news before Christmas that the project had encountered some delays, so hopefully this excites people of the bright future that awaits the football club and the community of Sawston”.
