City played out an entertaining 0-0 draw with a Bedworth side flying high in the table at the moment. Both sides played some good football in the right manner but the major talking point came in the 30th minute when City were bizarrely denied a goal by a collaboration of incompetence between referee and his assistant.
Daniel Cotton was tripped on the edge of the box and while he tried to stay on his feet he inevitably lost any advantage and the referee awarded the spot kick.
Cotton picked himself up and fired a low powerful shot into the bottom corner, however the ball struck a stantion that was a good metre inside the goal and bounced out, after a short pause the referee blew his whistle to award the goal. Meanwhile, the ball had gone out on the far side and the Assistant Referee was indicating a throw-in, suggesting that the ball had hit the post.
The officials convened and came to the conclusion that the ball had actually struck a wheel on the outside of the post before defying physics to bounce out, bend around the post and head out on the far side of the pitch. The result was a goal kick.
The whole process went from a goal being awarded to a throw in for the home side and finally a goal kick.
Despite the mess created by the officials, it was a good game of football with both sides creating chances and both keepers making some very good saves.
