City earned a hard fought three points at Westwood Road this afternoon, triumphing over Sutton Coldfield Town 4-2.
An electric City took the lead after just four minutes when Ryan Ingrey capitalised on a defensive mishap to slide in Brad Rolt who deftly finished over Lewis Landers.
The visitors responded almost immediately with a chance of their own. A byline cross evaded the entire City defence and found Kyle Byrne at the back post, who was prevented the equaliser by a brave Joe Welch
City didn't let the chance phase them as they applied the pressure on the Sutton Coldfield defence, forcing Landers into a routine stop on 15 minutes after Stefan Broccoli was found in the box.
City's efforts were to be rewarded just 2 minutes later when skipper Taylor Parr headed home a powerful Jonathan Herd corner to double our advantage.
There was to be no respite for Sutton when Brocolli expertly picked out an unmarked Bruce Tsunonis in the box, who lashed a header into the net on the 25 minute mark, putting clear daylight between us and the visitors.
Despite a very controlled and dominant half by City, Sutton earned themselves a lifeline when a Jack Burgess corner was met by Pedro Lima. His knock down was eventually scrambled home by Alex McSkeane to make the score 3-1 going into the break.
City earned themselves the first chance of the second half as a surging run by Broccoli ended in him lashing an effort over the bar.
Sutton Coldfield reduced the deficit to one 15 minutes into the half after Byrne fired into the bottom corner from close range after a deflection in the box left the attacker with time and space at the back post.
The City defence weathered a flurry of Royals' attacks in the latter stages including a guilt edged chance for substitute James Tague at the back post, whose stoppage-time effort crashed the post at close range following a corner.
We put the result beyond doubt with the last kick of the game as substitute Dylan Edge found Broccoli who slid the ball into the corner on the counter attack to earn all three points.
We move onto another home game with Anstey Nomads next weekend.
