2023/24 Squad overview

Pre-season has ended and we go into next week's FA CUP Extra Prelim against Hadleigh United with a few fresh faces and some old favourites. With the move to Sawston on the horizon we thought we would share a rundown of the squad for the coming season

SOME NEW FACES

Dan George returns to the club having spent last season recovering from a serious hand injury. Dan will provide cover while Caleb Chandler has gone out on a season-long loan to gain some valuable first team experience.

Joe Hood is a dynamic right-back who can operate in either defence or midfield. He has spent the last few seasons playing for Bury Town in the equivalent-level Pitching In Isthmian League North Division where he won the players player of the year award.

The former Peterborough United Academy trainee has also enjoyed stints with St Neots Town, Mildenhall Town and St Ives Town.

Joe is a versatile defensive player but is also useful going forward

Richard Black joined us from Dereham Town where he was club captain and one of their stand out players in what was ultimately a relegation year. A solid Centre half who will bring a much needed aerial presence to the squad.

"He likes defending and he’s a no-nonsense, aggressive defender. In the league we’re in, he’s perfect for that.

~ Robbie Nightingale

Stefan Broccoli, what a coup this was to acquire the services of the former Arsenal and Newcastle Youth player who has also spent some time in the lower Italian leagues, 'Brocs' will be one to watch this season.

Joining us from high flying Spalding United where he scored 6 goals and missed out narrowly on promotion via the playoffs.

Ryan Swift will need no introduction to City Fans, the winger left us for Dereham Town last season.

Swifty was outstanding for the Magpies finishing joint highest appearances on 46 games returning 9 goals and multiple MoTM performances in a season that ultimately saw Dereham relegated via the playoffs.

Ryan's ability to get quality crosses into the box will make us a much more effective attacking unit this coming season.

Stan Leech joined from Saffron Walden and has been a big hit in pre-season scoring 4 goals.

Stan is a powerful frontman who is great in the air. He is sure to cause defences a lot of problems with his goals and hold up play.

He's impressed in pre-season and is fast becoming a favourite among the fans.

Retained Players

We have also retained much of last season's squad including Joe Welch, Taylor Parr, Mikey Davies, Jake Battersby, Isaac Maynard, Scott Bridges, Tom Waumsley, Dan Cotton, Ben Bradley, Ed Tassel, Ryan Ingrey & Tommy Rigby

The departures from the club are;

Jarid Robson - Mildenhall Town

Simon Swinton - Mildenhall Town

Ben Nolan - Mildenhall Town

Yaw Ofosu - Alvechurch

Matty Miles - Peterborough Sports

We would like to say a massive thank you and good luck to these lads who leave with our best wishes.

With a few more options still trialling with us and the recruitment of the 2 lads from Cambridge United Academy, it's looking like we'll have a strong squad capable of progressing up the league next season, and with the new stadium likely to be opening around Christmas time, it's going to be a roller coaster 12 months for the Lilywhites.

I have had from my hours as a 8 year old lad from 178 Cherry Hinton Road - could walk to Cambridge Railway station- a walk of to go to Spurs supporter. So I could get the train to get through to watch the game & travel home!!

Clearly this could not happen NOW - & I remember the night that my mother came to tell me that White was killed on playing golf.

I still remember the day!!

But I was walked to Cambridge City games - @ i then when City so I could walk to United.

So I would like any info about Cambridge United- I watched the recent game a few weeks ago!!

I am now…
